There is no parental consent tattooing at Alternative Arts. All persons tattooed must be at least 18 years of age.

Parental Consent Piercing

Parental consent piercing begins at age 14, no one younger, and no exceptions. Since parental consent piercing carries a fairly high liability risk, proper ID is absolutely required, by both minor and parent. Colorado State Law is very specific in that written consent must be obtained from a parent or legal guardian only! So in other words, your brother, sister, aunt uncle, or friend of the family cannot sign for you.

One of these IDs are accepted and required. If it’s not on this list, it will not be accepted.

Minor

Student ID AND birth certificate (for individuals that do not have a photo ID that shows birth date)
Passport
Learner’s Permit (picture version)
Driver’s License
Military ID
Official State or Federal issue picture ID

Parent

Driver’s License
Passport
State or Federal ID
Military ID

What must be achieved with ID is two-fold: First- establish with any one version of ID from the above list – name, photo match, and birth date (must have all three) Second – that the adult and minor are related. We are looking for matching last names or address. If in the case of divorce, if the first name of the mother matches the mother’s name on the birth certificate, that is acceptable. If you are a legal guardian, you must bring original or certified copies of the court documentation. Stepparents must have matching address if last name is not shared.

Common attempts by adults to circumvent ID requirements are, “But I’m the parent” or “I’m her brother/sister and I’m over 18, so I can sign.” To parents – Alternative Arts cannot confirm that you are the parent without ID; a visual likeness doesn’t prove you’re a parent, likeness similarities also occur in aunts and uncles. To the non-parents – Colorado State Law requires parents or legal guardian only, sorry. As mentioned before, there are liability issues concerning the piercing of minors, so we’ll send you back home as many times as needed until our ID requirements are met. We apologize for any inconvenience, but it is the only way we can render this service. Besides, if we didn’t do everything within the law, would you really want us to pierce your child? If you have any questions regarding ID requirements, please call before you make the trip.
